2006159 2.2JTS Problems Starting. Just before Christmas, my car took several attempts to start. It only happened a couple of times so I didn't think much of it. InAustralia, the Brera was sold in two versions; the four-cylinder 2.2-litre JTS 136 kW engine and the top level Brera JTS, a V6 3.2-litre boasting 191 kW. TheAlfa Romeo 159 (2005-2011) is prone to a variety of issues, including stone chips and paint damage, timing chain wear on the 1.9 JTS and 2.2 JTS engines, timing chain stretch on the 3.2 JTS engine, water pump and timing belt failure on the 1.9 JTDm 16v and 2.4 JTDm 20v engines, and worn drive shafts on the 2.4 JTDm engine.

My2.2 JTS 159 has developed a problem, where most of the time all lights flicker rhythmically irrespective of the load on the system - faster at low RPM and slower at higher RPM. When there is a load on the electrical system at idle like the radiator fan turning on, the frequency of flickering increases, but at higher RPM the flickering is Myfirst post on here for a while!! - just bought a lovely phase 3 GTV with the JTS Engine from 2004. About 2 weeks ago the dreaded engine light came on and after checking the fault code it is showing the Camshaft Sensor as faulty. Hi, I have a '06 159 JTS 2.2 which had it's timing chain replaced 18 months ago (~50k km.) Now the "Check engine" light is back and only getting worse. Six-speed manual gearbox fitted across the range. 3.2 V6 comes as standard Theworkshop manual I downloaded for the 2.2 version of the Alfa 159 indicates that the temperature sensor is bolted inside the sump; therefore, it's necessary to remove the sump to change the sensor. Of course, being an Alfa, getting the sump off requires a bit of additional R&R, but it's well within my capabilities.The2.0 petrol and 2.2 diesel engines are unaffected. Some cars would have an interim catchment plate fitted under the scuttle drain point in the engine bay just under the drivers side wiper. If either this plate or the newer scuttle are fine if fitted but not a requirement for the OPs needs.Most2.2 engines have had timing chain replacements around the 50,000 to 60,000 mark (some a lot ealrier). Mine was done at 55k miles by Alfaworkshop for a fixed fee of £550 inc parts. Sometimes when the chain stretches, one of the intake or exhaust solenoids also go faulty.
