Tbh I tried playing AC with a controller and didn't like it. It was also made more for a wheel than a controller. It's better in ACC though, I tried it in both games as well. Honestly, you'd probably have more fun saving and buying a second-hand wheel than saving and buying lots of console games.

You can play any game on a controller. Tools like AutoHotkey, Steam's controller support, or other 3rd party tools will make it work even if the game doesn't natively support controller. AC does. You can check if a game natively supports a controller right on the steam store page. I have steam controller, ds4 and xboxone controller.
Honestly I don't know. Maybe it's because the controller is 2 channels but you need 3 (steering, brake, throttle)? But in that case the throttle should still work. If you have the budget, a wheel would be best. I’d recommend the Logitech G27 as they are fairly cheap nowadays and still very high quality. You can play with a controller but it’s not the best experience you can get. AC is too hard with a controller. You need a wheel.
4. Noticed that "steam overlay" was disabled for "Assetto corsa". Went into steam and enabled it. --> Controller buttons and axis's don't show up as working in Assetto Corsa controls menu, BUT THEY WORK IN THE ACTUAL GAME!!!!! Everything works now, just need to tinker with all the values, to get a better feel for the controller!
